Tools worth using

We have listed some of the freely available tools you can use to perform some of the tasks needed when running a website or network.  As this list develops we will expand it into different sections. If you have any suggestions as to what we should list please let us know via a ticket.


Password management:
  • LastPass - Generates and stores passwords securely.

  • FileZilla - FileZilla is open source FTP access software distributed free of charge under the terms of the GNU General Public License


  • FreePlane - Free mind mapping and knowledge management software

Code Editing
  • Notepad ++ - Free (as in "free speech" and also as in "free beer") GPL Licensed source code editor and Notepad replacement.
  • WinMerge - an Open Source differencing and merging tool for Windows that allows you to compare both folders and files to see what has changed.
